On the crest of the Apennines:

from the Fangacci Refuge to Campigna along Path 00

The section of Sentiero 00 connecting Rifugio Fangacci to Campigna represents one of the most evocative hiking experiences in the Casentinesi Forests, Monte Falterona, and Campigna National Park. It runs along the Apennine ridge, following the iconic route of the Alta Via dei Parchi, through open vistas, centuries-old beech forests, and environments of extraordinary naturalistic integrity.

The trail can be undertaken starting from either Rifugio Fangacci or Campigna, allowing you to choose the direction of travel based on personal preference or logistical planning.

From the ridge, the view extends from Tuscany to Emilia-Romagna, offering expansive views of the slopes and valleys below, especially on clear days.

Along Sentiero 00, sections immersed in dense beech forests alternate with more open ones, such as Prato al Soglio. The highest point of the route is Poggio Scali, which, at 1,520 meters above sea level, is one of the most panoramic peaks in the entire Park. From here, the view opens up to a 360° panorama of the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines. This section skirts the Sasso Fratino Integral Reserve, one of the most precious and rigorously protected areas of the Park. It was the first integral nature reserve established in Italy, characterized by old-growth beech and silver fir forests left to their natural evolution, now recognized as a World Heritage Site.

This section of the 00 Trail is ideal for those seeking an authentic mountain experience, combining nature, history, and landscape in one of Italy’s most precious forests.
